If your order has been shipped, you may expect to receive it within two to three business days, as this is typically how long it takes for Priority Mail packages to be delivered within the U.S.  If you live outside the U.S., it could take a week to 10 days for packages to arrive by Priority Mail International.

• Items purchased from the Inventory Reduction Sale are also exempt from our Exchange Policy, except in cases of defective merchandise, and may not be returned for exchange.
• All items returned for exchange must be in salable condition, unworn, undamaged and in the original net (if applicable) and undamaged packaging with tags still attached. Merchandise with the odor of smoke, styling products, etc. will be returned to the customer at customer's own expense. Do not mark, tape or attach anything to the packaging. Packages must be returned in a sturdy mailing box. Wrapping the wig box in brown paper or using a shipping envelope is not acceptable.

• Please make sure the color you select for your exchange is available, check to see if the wig you selected is manufactured in the color you have selected. This will be on the wigs product page drop down menue.
• Each wig has a fancy box or packaging that comes with the wig. DO NOT destroy the fancy box with scotch tape and/or postage stamps. Otherwise there will be additional fees.
• Do not wear the wig you plan to exchange. The staff that examins the wigs have been doing this over 10 years. Brand new packaging is all that we will except in return for exchange.
• The exchange fee is first for re-styling the wig and re-packaging the wig to look as brand new as possible.
• The exchange fee cost is based on each wigs popularity. Through the years we have learned which wigs will sit on the shelve after being exchanged, and they probably will not re-sell. This generates a loss for Ace Wigs, we then donate them to the cancer clinics yearly.

• Please print off a copy of the Click 'n Print Exchange Form, fill it out and enclose it with the item(s) you are returning for exchange so we may process your request in a more expedient manner. Please make every effort to include your Order ID Number or Invoice Number to prevent delays in processing your exchange.
• If you ordered by mail or fax, or if your item(s) were sent directly from the manufacturer without an Ace Wigs Receipt , please e-mail or call our office, and we will provide your Order ID Number .
• If the value of the item(s) sent as a replacement is less than the value of the item(s) returned for exchange, you will be given an in-store credit that may be applied towards a future purchase. Absolutely NO REFUNDS for this credit will be issued.

Here are detailed instructions to assist you in ordering online.  We have a very easy-to-navigate site, and you should find ordering with us a pleasure!

1)     Select a brand on our home page. By clicking on a brand name you will come to a page featuring a list of styles with a small photo of each.  Most brands have multiple pages of styles, listed alphabetically, so you should view all pages to see the full line-up!

2)     After you select a style to view, just click on the small picture. This will open up a second page which will include larger photos and a description.  Also on this page is a drop-down color menu, as well as a "color palette" of swatches displaying actual photos of  the colors available for the style. 

3)     Select a color from the drop-down menu which is just below the picture on this second page. When you click on a color from the drop-down menu, the appropriate color swatch will display.

4)  If desired, select a second color option in case your first choice is not available.

   5)     Scroll down below the color menu and select a size.

6)     Click the button below that says “Add to Cart.”

7)     On this page select the quantity using the drop-down menu.  The shopping cart will automatically update the subtotal for you if you select a quantity larger than one (1).

8)     Select a shipping method. If you order on weekdays before 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, your order will begin to be processed that same day.

9)     Next click the button “Proceed to Checkout.”

10)     This will bring you to a new page to set up your personal account. Please fill in your first and last name,  phone number and email address. Then select a Log-in Name and a Password. These can be any combination of letters and numbers. We suggest you write this information down and keep it in a safe place. This step is only necessary when you place your first order.  You will use this same Log-in Name and Password as a returning customer when placing future orders.

11)  Next click on the button “Log In.”  You will receive an email with a copy of this information within minutes. If the information is what you want then click the button “Continue.”

11)  On the next page you will be asked to fill out your shipping and billing information. Please note: all this information will appear on your order and receipt  just as you type it. The billing information must match the information on your credit card in order for us to process your payment. Almost all human hair wigs are made from hair that is obtained from the orient, and it is naturally black or very dark brown in color. The hair is subsequently bleached nearly white, and then dyed the various colors you see available in color charts. The hair is therefore not “virgin” hair, but instead has been through two processes that tend to strip the hair cuticle. If you wish to change the color of a human hair wig, the results are not always predictable because the hair has already been processed twice. ACE WIGS DOES NOT RECOMMEND DYEING HUMAN HAIR WIGS AND HAIRPIECES as this could cause permanent damage!

However, if you decide that dyeing your wig is worth the risk, it is imperative that a small “test strand” be snipped from an inconspicuous area of the wig so that the color process can be timed. Never dye the entire wig without first performing a test – even if you’ve dyed the same exact style and color of wig before – the previous wig may have been made from a completely different source of human hair, and may not react in the same way.

IMPORTANT: You can take a lighter shade of hair and deposit color onto it to make it darker, but you should never try to bleach a darker wig to make it lighter. As mentioned previously, this is a “try at your own risk” type of thing, and Ace Wigs cannot be responsible for any unfortunate results.

Although synthetic fiber does not have the same ability to absorb dye as human hair, there is one product our customers have used that just might work. It is called, “Roux Fanciful Mousse” by Revlon. It is intended to be a temporary hair coloring for human hair, but has been proven to work if you have a light colored wig that you wish to dye a darker shade. This product does NOT have the ability to make a darker wig lighter, however.

As with all of these types of suggestions, we must state that this is a “try at your own risk” type of thing, and Ace Wigs cannot be responsible for any unfortunate results. Always snip a small strand from the wig to use as a “test” before coloring the entire wig!

If you have long hair, it can be a challenge getting it stuffed inside of a wig! What works well is putting your hair into a low ponytail at the base of your neck, twisting it, and then wrapping the twisted ponytail around your head. It can then be pinned in place using bobby pins. If you have relatively short hair, just pin up any sections that might “pop out” from under the wig. No matter what length of hair you have, you might find wearing a wig cap helpful to hold in any loose strands.

This is an age-old question with no easy answer, but here are some guidelines that should help! In general it is preferable to make a selection that best complements the shape of your face. While those with an oval face shape will look good with just about any style of wig, most women do not have perfectly oval face shapes, and will find they look their best when the wig style has been carefully matched to their own unique face shape.

Start by pulling your own hair back and away from your face. Then study the illustration below to determine which shape most closely resembles the outline of your face. Style suggestions for each face shape follow.

Round: Bobs are not recommended for those who have a round face shape, as they only make the face look fuller. The goal is to slim the face. Some of the styles that you should look for are ones that will frame your face, and have height at the crown (top) of the wig.

Square: If your face is square-shaped, you should avoid blunt cut bangs as they will make your face look even more angular. If you want to wear bangs, select the styles that have wispy, “peek-a-boo” bangs. If you don’t like bangs, a side part will look better than a center part. The idea is to soften the edges of your face. Styles that can be worn close to your face, especially ones with soft layers in the front, will look the best.

Heart-Shaped: This shape resembles an upside-down triangle. Your face is narrower at the jaw line, and fuller at the brow line. You need to avoid wigs that have a lot of height at the crown and the side area around your ears. Look for styles that have fullness at the bottom. Chin-length styles with bangs swept to the side will look fantastic!

Oval: This face shape is considered to be one of the most versatile because almost all wigs will look flattering. Any style -- be it long, short, curly or straight -- will look natural and pretty. As you may have guessed, most wig models have this face shape!

Long: This shape is long and thin with a narrow chin. Avoid wigs that are long and hanging, or those that have a layered cut. This will only make your face seem longer. The idea is to add width to your face. Curly or wavy styles will look wonderful. Hair length that reaches to the middle of your neck will look the best on you.

There are three kinds of wig caps: solid nylon (the type of material used for pantyhose), nylon mesh, and cloth. The idea is to use the wig cap to help hold in any stray strands of your own hair so they don’t make a sudden appearance on the outside of your wig.

There are pro’s and con’s to wig caps. The good: they are very useful in holding long hair in place, they help to keep your wig cleaner because they act as a barrier between your natural scalp oils and the wig, and if you are just starting to re-grow hair after chemo, they may prevent hair breakage caused by the wig rubbing against your scalp.

The bad: some women find them to be very constricting (sometimes to the point of causing headaches), they tend to make the wig feel less secure and more likely to slip off, and if you’re not careful to pull the cap back far enough, it can show at the hairline.

Please see our “Wig Sizing” section for an illustration and instructions on measuring your head to determine the proper size. The vast majority of wigs are made in a woman’s size Average, although there are a sprinkling of styles which are available in Large or Petite. If your head measurement falls between two sizes, it is better to buy the next larger size, as it can be adjusted to make the circumference smaller using the straps that are found in the back of every wig  A wig can be adjusted to about an inch smaller in circumference using these straps.

If you have lost your hair due to chemotherapy or a medical condition, you may feel like your wig is not being held securely in place. If so, your wig can be further secured by using double-sided tape. In fact, most monofilament-top wigs (also called medical wigs) come with “tape tabs” around the perimeter of the wig. These are small plastic strips that are used to secure the double-sided tape.

A wig that is too small will be uncomfortable to wear, and not all wigs can be successfully stretched out to make them larger.

This is where a strip of transparent monofilament mesh has been sewn in at the top of the wig to form a set part line. Individual strands are inserted into this material to simulate hair growing out of a natural scalp. The drawback is that you cannot change the location of the part.

However, mono-part wigs present a more natural looking part line than either a wefted cap wig or a wig with a skin part -- and they are more affordable than a full monofilament-top wig. We feel a mono-part wig is a good choice, as long as you like the location of the part!

This is where a strip of flesh-colored material has been sewn in at the top of the wig to form a set, rigid part line. Individual strands are inserted into this material to simulate hair growing out of a natural scalp.

A couple of drawbacks: you cannot change the location of the part, and most non-Caucasian women find skin part wigs inappropriate for their skin tones, as the material used to form the part line is usually a very pale beige color.

This is where a small circle of flesh-colored material has been sewn in at the top of the wig, with individual strands inserted into it. Although this is supposed to help the wig look more natural, the size of the insert is usually that of a quarter or a half dollar, and the strands that “sprout” out of this circular area do not accurately simulate the way a person’s hair really grows.

In today’s marketplace, only the cheapest quality of wigs still use this type of top, as it has been largely replaced by monofilament-top cap construction.

In just the last two to three years, the availability of high quality human hair for wig making has become more and more scarce. In their search for a solution, the wig manufacturers have developed a new “heat resistant” synthetic fiber that is becoming increasingly more popular! The fiber itself closely resembles human hair (it has less “shine” than some synthetic fiber wigs), and it is possible to use moderately hot styling appliances to alter the appearance of the style. Blow dryers at low settings, and hot rollers, curling or straightening irons may be used at settings up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Some of us who have been in the wig business for awhile are predicting this to be the wave of the future. Heat-resistant wigs are an affordable and readily-available replacement for human hair wigs, and the fiber offers more styling versatility than “regular” synthetic hair wigs. Stay tuned…

There was a time, many years ago, when human hair wigs were considered superior to synthetic fiber ones. But…times have changed! About 95% of the wigs sold these days are made of synthetic fiber. Why? They are far less expensive, come in a huge variety of blended and highlighted colors that are simply not achievable with human hair, they spring back into their original style after being washed, they are more cool and lightweight to wear, and they look incredibly natural - just to name a few reasons!

The 5% of customers who prefer human hair wigs these days are buying them because of religious requirements, their own opinion that human hair is somehow “superior” to synthetic fiber, or they want a wig that can be re-styled using hot appliances such as curling irons, hot rollers, blow dryers, etc. But…times are changing again, and more and more wigs are now being made available in heat-resistant fiber.

Due to the high degree of customer dissatisfaction with human hair wigs, just about every wig company who has introduced human hair wigs over the last several years has decided to discontinue them and stick with synthetic fiber products. This alone, should tell you something…

If you insist on a human hair wig, you should familiarize yourself with the various types offered:

1)   Virgin Remy Human Hair - (rare and the most expensive) Unprocessed natural color, and all the cuticles are facing   the same direction, which reduces tangling.
2)   European Human Hair - Unprocessed natural color and very high grade of human hair.
3)   Human Hair - Unless otherwise stated, this is Oriental processed human hair.

Remember, any curl or wave that is present in a human hair wig will be LOST after the first time it is washed, and you will have to pull out your hot rollers or curling iron to try to replicate the original style.

The original idea was to come up with a wig that was less-expensive than a 100% human hair wig, yet still offered a “supposedly” more natural look than a 100% synthetic fiber wig. What resulted was a hybrid that is actually the WORST of both worlds.

The individual strands of synthetic fiber will retain their curl or wave after the wig is washed, but the human hair strands will not. This sounds like no big deal – just re-style it with a curling iron, right? Wrong! Because half the wig is made from synthetic fiber, a hot styling appliance will actually melt those strands. So you’re left with something that would best suit the end of a mop handle after the first time it is washed. There are a few 50/50 wigs out there made from a human hair/heat-resistant synthetic fiber blend, and these CAN be re-styled with a curling iron, but beware, as they’re few and far between

Not too many years ago, the “big hair” look was in. Women demanded fuller-looking wig styles, and to accomplish this, the wig manufacturers created “crimp wefting” also marketed by some brands as “perma-tease.” The idea was to add fullness and body to the wig by sewing wefts of crimped or “teased” hair into the cap at the root area. Fewer and fewer styles these days are made this way, but if you have seen a wig that looks extremely “fuzzy” on top – that’s crimp wefting!

This is the opposite of crimp-wefting. Today’s women are shying away from the “big hair” look and instead prefer wigs that don’t make them look like they’re wearing a football helmet! To reduce the fullness in a wig, the manufacturers are now spacing the wefts (fringes) of hair farther apart which gives the appearance of someone who has had her hair thinned. With fewer wefts, there is less hair sewn into the cap, resulting in a more light-weight wig that is cooler to wear, and generally more natural-looking.

A common complaint about synthetic fiber wigs is that they are too shiny. A little shine looks healthy – too much shine looks fake! Although the wig manufacturers have come a long way in recent years to develop synthetic fiber that looks very natural, you may find yourself in need of toning down the shine from time to time.

Here’s a trick from a wig stylist we know: take a powder puff and lightly apply baby powder to the wig. Then, shake off any excess powder. So far, we have not heard any reports of the powder damaging the wig in any way. It can be safely washed out of the wig following the instructions that came with the wig. Over time and repeated washing, even the most shiny synthetic fiber wigs should eventually tone down.

Dream on! (Actually this is probably a bit too harsh!) But…unless it is a photo that we have taken ourselves for the auction listing, the wig you receive will not just pop out of the box looking ***exactly*** like the photo that was provided to us in our supplier’s catalog! The manufacturers are in the business of selling wigs, and they know that the better the model looks while wearing the wig in the photo, the more likely the style will sell. So…professional stylists are called in to brush and comb and trim and mousse and spray until the wig suits the model’s face perfectly. Then, and only then, is the photo is taken for the wig catalog!

But…no need to despair! The vast majority of synthetic fiber wigs do NOT require a lot of styling. When your wig arrives it will be packaged either in a cardboard box (similar to a shoe box), a plastic bag, or a plastic case. For most styles, the wig just needs to be shaken out before you put it on, and then brushed or combed a bit around your face, then finished up on the sides and in the back with a few more brushstrokes. A few squirts of wig spray to keep everything in place, and…Voila!!

Some styles have been precision cut, and trying to alter them could spell disastrous results. For synthetic fiber wigs that are curly or wavy, the curl or wave pattern has been literally baked into the wig at the time it was manufactured. This is how the style is able to just “bounce back” after washing. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you could be cutting off part of the curl pattern that created the style, and will end up with a wig that looks like a “hay stack.”

Our best advice: take the wig to a professional stylist to obtain a recommendation whether the wig can be cut into a different style. Cutting and completely re-styling a wig is NOT one of those “do-it-yourself” at home projects!

The wig manufacturers almost always create styles with “too long” of bangs, as women’s faces come in all shapes and sizes. A woman with a very high forehead will need the full length of the bangs so her wig will look natural. However, a woman with an average or low forehead will try on the same style and find herself looking like a “shaggy dog” in the mirror. It is fine to trim the bangs on a wig, but we suggest trimming just a tiny bit at a time. Unlike our own hair which grows back if we trim our bangs too short, once the bangs are trimmed up too short on a wig, it may no longer be wearable.

Trimming bangs into a wig that did not come with bangs is a different story, especially if it has a strong part line. This is best left to a professional wig stylist who is familiar with this procedure, and can predict the result. You should be wearing the wig any time it is trimmed – don’t just drop it off and expect the bangs to be trimmed properly when you return to pick it up! They may end up too short, and you’ll have to pay the stylist for a wig that you can’t even wear!

How long a wig will remain wearable depends upon several factors: the quality of the wig, how often it is washed (and what products are used to wash it), and how careful you are about brushing it are a few things to consider. With wigs, the old saying, “you get what you pay for” is largely true. A more expensive wig is generally a higher quality wig – that is, it is made from a more expensive fiber that will last longer than a wig made from a cheaper fiber.

As mentioned above, the more often a wig is washed, the sooner it will become dull and lifeless. Using styling products designed for human hair on a synthetic fiber wig will shorten its lifespan even more. The tools used to brush or comb the wig will also make a big difference, as the wrong ones can split the ends of the strands and cause the wig to look “frizzy.”

Even for the higher quality brands, you cannot expect to get more than about two months use out of a wig that is worn every single day. This surprises some people, but think of it this way: if you were to wear the same exact clothes every single day for two months, wouldn’t you expect them to wear out? The same goes for wigs. Many full-time wig-wearers purchase two wigs so that one may be worn while the other is being washed and dried. 

If you are going through chemotherapy, it will generally take about two to three months after the last treatment before you see any significant hair re-growth. Even then, if you have always worn your hair long, you may feel uncomfortable going “wigless” in public until your hair is at least several inches long. Hair usually grows at the rate of one-half inch per month. You can use this as a guide for determining how long it will take for your hair to reach the desired length where you will no longer feel the need for continuing to wear a wig.

If you buy wigs to wear occasionally for fashion, or for a special event, they can pretty much last indefinitely if they are properly stored. We have purchased closeout wigs that are 15 to 20 years old, stored properly, and they look as good as new (a bit outdated maybe, but still very wearable!).

Wigs that are cared for properly will generally last longer than ones that are treated carelessly.

Opinions on wig storage vary. Some swear by using a Styrofoam head form, while others claim that storing the wig this way will stretch it out. Others swear by using a folding plastic or wire wig stand, as this allows for air circulation while preserving the shape of the wig. Still others use large soup cans. One of our best customers has so many wigs that she inserted little hooks into the walls of her closets and just hangs the wigs on them.

We can tell you how NOT to store a wig. Never, ever just leave it in the box it came in with the net pulled over it! Over time, it will literally take on the shape of the box. We once purchased some closeout wigs that had been stored in their original wig boxes for years. They were actually rectangular when we took them out. I kid you not!

If your wig arrives turned inside out, it has been packaged this way for a reason – to preserve its style. A lot of wigs that have “flipped out” layers are packaged this way. If the wig came turned inside out, it is pretty safe to store it this way, as long as it is not left sitting in a box. If it came with a net over it, it’s o.k. to leave the net on it when you store it, but again, take it out of the box!
